I refuse to tell you who to vote for in this election.

No matter who you vote for, I will still love you.

I purposefully wrote and posted this article before the election so that you may read it in an unbiased way.

I also hope you can maintain trust in God if your candidate loses in the election.

Events in this world do not always lead where they seem.

To illustrate, I want to draw from one of my favorite stories. It is a Chinese myth* supposedly told before the birth of Christ.

The legend is about a man named Sāi Wēng. He was a rancher who raised horses.

One day, a prized horse jumped the fence and ran away.

His neighbor heard the bad news and arrived to console him. However,

Sāi Wēng asked his neighbor a simple yet profound question, “How could we know it is not good for me?”

Sure enough, the lost horse reappeared in a few days and brought another handsome horse. The neighbor returned to celebrate the good news with Sāi Wēng. Yet again, Sāi Wēng asked a simple yet profound question, “How could we know it is not a bad thing for me?”

Sāi Wēng had a son. One day, the young man decided to take the new horse for a ride. The horse bucked and threw Sāi’s son. The fall broke his leg.

This time, various neighbors traveled to Sāi’s house to offer their sympathy for this misfortune. Again, Sāi Wēng asked the question, “How could we know it is not good for me?”

A short time later, the nation’s army appeared because they needed young men to fight in a bloody war. Sāi Wēng’s son was not selected because of his severely broken leg. That injury likely saved him from death.

Wēng’s story could continue unendingly, but you probably have gotten the point by now. As human beings, it is not always easy to determine whether or not an event is good or bad at the moment.

Remember this if your candidate wins.

Remember this if your candidate loses.

I’m Mark Edge; thanks for reading.
