Mark Edge answers the questions, Why is this happening to me? Why aren’t my plans working out as I set them up? Where is God in all of this? His answer is simple yet profound. A definite must read.
In a time filled with chaos, Mark Edge’s book couldn’t be more relevant. He uses his own personal stories to demonstrate how biblical principles apply to modern concerns. If you find yourself confused amidst the chaos, this book is a must-read.
Chaos is not something many of us go looking for. However, Dr. Mark Edge presents the concept of holy chaos as something that can make us better. Whether it is our need for Sabbath rest or a challenge to take action, sometimes having holy chaos is the only way God can get our attention. I think you will be challenged and encouraged to look at chaos in your life in a whole new light.
In the beginning, God created. Over time, chaos gave way to order and to rest. What God did brought Him delight. Using contemporary illustrations and personal anecdotes, Mark Edge tackles modern issues by taking his readers on a journey through 1 Samuel to show how God continues to be one who works chaos for His glory and His disciples’ good. Readers will see God’s great desire to give His people the fullest of experiences through the toughest of challenges. From the lowest place, they can call on the highest name. In Christ, chaos gives way to rest, abundance, and delight. Read this book and find the way.
Holy Chaos presents a challenge to embrace a heavenly perspective of the inescapable changes, transitions and crises of life’s journey. Through Bible stories, scripture, personal accounts and wisdom anecdotes, Mark Edge helps us to understand chaos as not something to escape, but that to embrace, leading and equipping us to be where and what God wants as He makes everything beautiful in His time. The chapters are short, so with pen in hand, underline and take notes on each one. You will discover unique and relevant insights to live out life’s chaotic journey confidently, learning that God turns chaos into something sacred.
Mark Edge writes as if you were sitting across the table from him, listening to his stories, hearing his heart, sensing his love for his family, watching his love for God shine in his eyes. I can’t believe I was given the grace to sit in that place! I am hoping the same for you. Don’t ‘read’ this book…..sit across from him and dwell together. You will be blessed.
Excellent….magnificent….scholarly yet digestible…outstanding transitions from biblical themes to personal illustrations and back again…comforting yet challenging…frequently provoking of lumps in the throat and tears in the eye (in a good way)…easy reading (and understanding) writing style…familiar old Bible stories told in such a way that the screen in one’s mind goes from black and white to HD color…and finally, penned by a man after God’s own heart.
I have always believed in God’s sovereignty, and His Providence in helping us in our human suffering. In Mark Edge’s book Holy Chaos he has caused me to think about these in different ways that has increased my knowledge about God’s sovereignty and Providence by his personal examples and other examples, and by the events he used from Scripture, his book will help us develop better teaching principles, and personal experiences as we deal with the adversities and events in our daily life.
I have known personally and followed Dr. Edge’s great work for many years. Mark provides us an entertaining and thoroughly insightful view of how God has always used ‘chaos’ aka turmoil and suffering, to build nations, shape cultures, and develop individuals. He utilizes numerous examples of nations, leaders, characters of the Bible, his own life, and current world events to demonstrate how “God’s chaos” (even Satan) is used to achieve His perfect plans. Edge explains how God provides the tools of prayer, the holy spirit, and the bible to live an abundant life that He has already designed for each of us. One of my favorite perspectives from this memorable book is – “we enjoy God, we follow God, and we allow the words of God to interpret the efficacy of our walk, not our circumstances.” This book is one to read again!
